Thomas More - Campus De Vest
Campus De Vest is located on the ring road around Mechelen, just a 10-minute walk from the city centre. The location is easily accessible by car (with two public car parks less than a 5-minute walk away), by train (both Mechelen Central Station and Mechelen Nekkerspoel are about a 10-minute walk) and by bus (stop in right front of the building).
The campus consists of several blocks and was recently thoroughly renovated. The old part was given a facelift and a brand new building was constructed next to it.
Light, space and atmosphere
The new building, covering nearly 9,700 m², is designed for modern forms of education, with maximum flexibility: spaces can be adapted to meet a variety of needs.
Several functions come together:
Gathering
A spacious foyer, a large student restaurant, chill and quiet areas, two rooftop terraces and green outdoor waterfront spaces.
Studying
A learning centre with a library and workspaces, two large auditoriums (mergeable into one), two medium-sized auditoriums and 12 classrooms accommodating 40 to 109 students.
Working
Offices and meeting rooms for support services.
Sustainability and accessibility were key design principles. There are four lifts, a green roof, solar panels, water recovery and a bicycle shed with space for 395 bicycles.
Light, space and atmosphere make this building the perfect location for the Horatio Congress!
How to get to Mechelen
Thanks to its central location, Mechelen is easy to reach from practically any Belgian or European city.
Arriving from the airport
If you’re arriving at Brussels Airport, the easiest and fastest way to get to Mechelen is by train. The Brussels Airport railway station is located on level -1. A new, direct express train will take you to Mechelen Central Station in just eleven minutes!

If you’re arriving at Charleroi Airport (Brussels South), you can buy a combined ticket for the bus and train. This ticket includes a bus transfer to Luttre, Fleurus, or Charleroi Central Station followed by a train to Mechelen Central Station. The two ticket vending machines are located outside the airport.
Arriving by train
If you are travelling by train, your destination is Mechelen Central Station or Mechelen-Nekkerspoel. International connections usually pass through Brussels-Midi, where you can transfer to a local train towards Mechelen.
Both stations are within walking distance of Campus De Vest (Zandpoortvest). From Mechelen Central it’s about a ten-minute walk; from Mechelen-Nekkerspoel, it takes just under ten minutes. Please note that not all trains stop at Mechelen-Nekkerspoel.
By (rental) car
Renting a car is also an option. You’ll find various rental companies – such as Hertz, Avis, and Europcar – at both Brussels Airport and Charleroi Airport.
Upon leaving the airport in Zaventem, you will immediately join the motorway. Head towards Antwerp via the E19 motorway and take exit 10 (Mechelen-Zuid) or 9 (Mechelen-Noord).
From Charleroi, start by driving towards Brussels. Once you’re in Brussels, follow the ring road and then take the E19 towards Antwerp. Choose exit 10 (Mechelen-Zuid) or 9 (Mechelen-Noord).
